College of Horticulture, West Singhbhum
Horticulture College, Khuntpani is situated in Khuntpani, Chaibasa in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand state in India. Realizing the importance of Horticulture in recent years, this college was established in 2018 under Birsa Agricultural University, Kanke, Ranchi. Spread in an area of 69 acres, this College is located in Khuntpani, about 09 km from Kharsawan and 25 km from Chaibasa which is the headquarters of West Singhbhum district. It is located at 22˚ 52’N latitude and 85˚ 84’E longitude within an average elevation of 227 metres. The annual average rainfall observed here is 1191 mm. Horticulture College is dedicated to the study and research in different branches of Horticultural sciences particularly Vegetables, Fruits, Floriculture & Landscape Architecture and Postharvest Technology. The College offers four-year Bachelor degree in Horticultural Science. It follows the recommendation of Fifth Deans’ committee of the ICAR for its Undergraduate Degree Programme. The college follows the course credit system of education under semester system.
Mandate
- To promote excellence in horticultural education at undergraduate level to cater to the needs and opportunities in horticulture and allied sciences.
- To undertake basic and applied research in different fields of horticulture including fruits, vegetables, flowers, medicinal & aromatic plants and post harvest technology with an aim to increase productivity and utility in horticulture.
- To facilitate transfer of technology to the farm community through extension and communication system.
