College of Fisheries Science, Gumla
Fisheries have immense potential in the country and especially in Jharkhand. Keeping in view the importance of fisheries in the state, college of Fisheries science, Gumla has been established by govt. of Jharkhand in this University in 2017. The college is located in Gumla Town where all the basic facilities by the Govt. are available within half kilometer radius. Gumla is well connected by road from Ranchi and it is 110 Km from Ranchi. The college campus has boys , girls hostels, residential quarters for teachers and non teaching staff and a scientist home so that students feels safe and have homely atmosphere.
The vision of College of Fisheries Science is to:
(i) Gain excellence in academics by imparting quality education to students
(ii) Develop qualified professional human resource
(iii) Address problems of the fisheries sector for the state
(iii) Develop advanced technologies for freshwater
The intake capacity is thirty students every year selected through competitive examination conducted by JCECB, Jharkhand. The course is for four year (8 Semester).
As per the 5th Dean`s Committee recommendation there are seven departments with well qualified teachers, laboratory and library facilities. The students learn the basic principles of Fisheries science and under READY programme they have Hands on training of entrepreneurship on fish feed production and fish seed production. A fish farmer’s advisory system is available in the college where farmers can get free advice for better fish production and can have suggestions after analysis of pond soil, water and fish on nominal charges.
The students after completing the degree of B.F.Sc. will be very helpful in bringing the fisheries sector to a new height and improve the livelihood of fishermen.
