Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) Vice Chancellor Dr Onkar Nath Singh said that statistical methods are very important for scientific research and meaningful interpretation and reporting of research findings. It helps in better understanding of various aspects and outcomes of research study.
VC was addressing the concluding session of three-day training programme on ‘Basic data analysis using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) Software organized by Department of Animal Genetics & Breeding of Ranchi Veterinary College. He also distributed certificates to the trainees for successful completion of the programme and advised the organizers to conduct longer duration training on statistical methods in future.
Welcoming the guests Dr Sushil Prasad, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences outlined the importance of SPSS software in research study planning, designing, data collection, and analysis and drawing inferences. Coordinator Dr Nandani Kumari said this training on basic statistical tools would make the participants updated and equipped to solve research problems in a more logical and scientific manner. Updated versions of SPSS are coming regularly and it is commonly used in healthcare, marketing, business intelligence, criminal investigation and education research for advanced analysis.
Drs Nandani Kumari, Absar Ahmad, Thanesh Oraon, Shailendra Rajak of RVC, Shivam Mishra and Ankita of RAC and Hariom Pachori of CIP acted as resource persons. Topics covered included basics of SPSS, theory and hands on experience of descriptive statistics and graphical representation, correlation, regression and logistic regression, fundamentals of hypothesis testing, parametric and non- parametric tests, normality and homogeneity test and Chi-square test.
Twenty three faculty and Ph D scholars from Ranchi University, St Xavier’s College, Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Namkum, College of Veterinary Science and Ranchi Agriculture College participated in the training.
Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University signs MoU with BAU for PG research and teaching
Ranchi: Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University (JRSU) and Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) have signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) for long-term collaboration for promotion of quality postgraduate research and teaching in cutting-edge areas by facilitating students to seek specialized guidance and facilities of both the universities.
The MoU is aimed at creating opportunities for quality education in various disciplines, strengthening and expanding the extension services through student exchange, faculty exchange, research projects, patents, doctoral programmes, adjunct faculty, industry collaborations, publications and initiatives under New Education Policy 2020. As agreed, research instrumentation as well as library facilities available with both the institutions will be made available to each other’s faculty and research scholars. However, the cost of specific consumables will be borne by the respective organizations. Students exchange will be as per availability of fund complying with the regulations and policies of both the institutions. The IPRs shall rest with the institution where the major part of the research work was carried out by the student. In the event of an equal amount of work being carried out at both the institutions, patents/ protections/ knowledge generated will be shared in proportion.
BAU Vice Chancellor Dr Onkar Nath Singh termed it as important step for multidisciplinary educational development in the state and said both the institutions would be benefitted with this MoU. The MoU signed by JRSU Registrar Col (Dr) Rajesh Kumar and BAU Registrar Dr Narendra Kudada comes into force with immediate effect and shall be valid for three years extendable up to five years. The MoU may be amended by mutual written agreement six months prior to the effective date of amendments coming in to force.
